Lochte wins gold with a world record

Ryan Lochte of the US had to push his every limit to surpass the mighty Russian challenge and he did it in style by winning the Men’s 200m Backstroke final. There were other big contenders from the USA including Aaron Peirsol, but the stiff resistance came from the Russian Arkady Vyatchanin.

Lochte took the decisive lead in the last run and comfortably won the gold medal with a record time of 1:53.94. Peirsol, the defending champion won silver medal in 1:54.33. Vyatchanin started off well, but literally choked in the last moments of the game and somehow managed to win bronze by taking 1:54.93 in the Beijing Olympics 2008.
